Obviously vocabulary lists are not going to be anything other than formative assessment tasks as they do not, on their own, allow for any real evaluation of the 4 criteria however, they are pretty crucial. The lists provided in the 3 sections are really just to give you an idea of what is possible. The Phase 1-2 lists are likely more obvious as they are the classic themes that we cover when teaching a new language. By Phase 3, teachers are likely to be a bit more creative with what they cover, relying on their students' interests as well as on current trends and events. By Phases 5-6, the literature studied is likely to provide a great deal of the potential vocabulary words.
In some instances, these lists contain more words that what has been tested in class. Students should have the "official" lists in their notebooks. The extra words are there to allow further enriching of writing and speaking.
